  • Looking for my mix of Watto's "Cantina hum" from the end of the video? Here ya go!

CLARIFICATION: to those pointing out how you can play the game in 16:9 resolutions, yep it's technically true. You can play at resolutions such as 1080p, but what you get is a horizontally stretched experience that's still rendering all sorts of stuff at a 4:3 aspect ratio. This results in everything from the HUD, to the text/UI, to the skyboxes on each track looking skewed. But yes, it's technically correct that you can enable widescreen resolutions, it's just not fully optimized to do so and I really should've clarified what I meant. Check out this page for more:

Oh man .. I remember playing this game .. what a piece of sh….. 😉
Honestly, this game was made because of the hype around star wars ep 1. The good thing about this game is: It was ugly, but still way better than the CGI-demo they called a movie.
Well so it was no big deal, that I got it as "backup copy" for free 😀

The games tag line states "Two Engines, one Champion, no limits" Then right underneath it said Limited Edition Box. Which one is it LucasArts?!?!?!

oh boy childhood domino back 😀

  • Damn, right in the nostalgia. A review of the Episode 1 Battle for Naboo would be superb.

Also, next time You play the game, then instead of clicking "Start Race" with the mouse button, press the Spacebar. A suprise is waiting for You.

I always find it amusing that with the exception of Anakin, every Alien racer, whenever You crash in the race, screams something like "Jawohl! HAHAHAHAH!!!" I mean, what other driver does that when crashing?

I recently bought an N64 and this was my first game purchase and it's still as awesome as I remember!

Glad to see I'm not the only one losing my shit as a kid trying to beat that one bonus track. But, since I was a kid with nothing better to do with my time, I've actually mastered and beat it… several times. Ah the memories… I think I'm gonna go and play it again since it's on GOG now. Thanks!

Wow, them nostalgia feels. I usually hate racing games, but I played the heck out of this one back in the day.

So you mention every platform except the N64? That was one of the BEST N64 games.

I think I’ve seen an arcade version of this before

I loved this game, and I remember playing on keyboard. It was pretty fun.

  • I had the dreamcast version 😍😄💕

It's been a long time since I played this on the N64. That having been said, I was hoping for some clarification. When you upgrade your pod, do the upgrades apply to every character? For example, if I were to upgrade Anakin with a higher top speed, would all the other characters also have a higher top speed relative to the part I installed for Anakin?

You can get it on gog

I remember playing this in an arcade at our local bowling alley. I loved it so much that I always pleaded with my parents to keep going back so that I could play it before they retired the arcade machine. They bought me the GameBoy version in the end.

  • looks fun. when this game came out my 14 year old self chose the Episode 1 action game over this game. Everyone at the time and now told me I made a mistake but I loved that game and had a blast with it.

I loved this game when it came out, aced it all in the end. that level you mentioned was awful i remember but after a few (maybe lots and lots and lots) of attempts it was doable. glad it been re-released, think i'm going to have another crack

  • Awesome that you covered this, I remember playing this on my N64. Didn't get to play nearly as much of it as I wished, though, someone broke into our house and stole our N64 and all the games. Good times.

And yeah, we always called it Star Wars Pod Racing as well.

  • Oh man, I had the ps2 version of this and it was one of my favourite childhood games 😀
(Looking at it the later ps2 version had more stylistic ui and was graphically a bit crisper and nicer than this version, but the ps2 version doesn't seem to have been that popular)

HAHAHAHA Track 2 of the bonus tracks. I thought the same thing. I ended up doing it though. My GOG copy does not work on launch. Tried SO much.

Not sure if someone’s brought this up but could slipping on ice mean that podracers use lasers for tracking position? Sorta like how using a mouse on a glass table can seriously decrease its accuracy, if not eliminate it all together?

I loved this on the n64.

My first console game ever and I haven't yet beat it. Fond memories of multiplayer with siblings, and unlocking every track on 1st place all the way to Fire Mountain Rally and Ando Prime Centrum with a wonky joystick. From blistering thumbs and frustration, I gave up on the Boonta Classic and Abyss. Looking back by playing this game again, I'm amazed at how difficult this game is and how I was even able to beat as much of those races as I did. I'm already having a hard time with the Semi-Pro tournament.

I played the N64 version. I vaguely remember liking it a fair amount, feeling awesome pulling off flawless boosts and leaving AI opposition in the dust.

the only good thing about Episode I.

it's actually very easy to beat the abyss track. While approaching the first curve just stop pressing the w button, use the brakes and turn to the left. And use a pod with a high rate of turning skill like Neva Kee, Slide Paramita and Anakyn himself. Past the first curve 99% is done. I beat this track after a couple of tryings ending first. The last two tracks and especially the boonta eve classic race are far more difficult then Abyss

This was my first racing game. I completely forgot about it. It was a lot of fun.
