I have been playing Warhammer Fantasy RPG3 from FFG, at the time was slammed for being too different. I guess people are used to it now. This looks amazing and I am keen to get my hands on it, I would of course run it in a more RPG Director fasion. Can not wait.

Awesome. Thanks for letting me know!

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

Ya. I'll never do that. That's why I printed out the PDF files from Paizo's site.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

Yes. You can play all the adventures with 1-6 players. The discard for hitpoints works for me, but I see it as more than hit points and an overall "morale" or "efficacy". If you lose your sword… well that's probably WORSE than getting a scratch 🙂

My other concern with the design is the requirement to mark up your character cards. A bit of the Risk Legacy taint spreading to other designs?

  • ExBruinsFan 56 mins ago

Can all the adventures be played with four or fewer players?

Your deck counts as your hit points, right? Now I can see spells and abilities being discarded as you take damage (works like Magic Realm in that sense), but it doesn't really make sense with equipment.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

No requirement. The base comes with the first expansion inside the box. The character add-on expansion is just that, and add-on. However you can only play with up to four players unless you get the add-on which adds enough cards for a fifth and sixth player.

  • ExBruinsFan 56 mins ago

So, the base game has cards which REQUIRE the expansion to use?

  • EvanoGMan 56 mins ago

You were — just rewatched and realized I missed you saying that. My mistake! Thanks for your reply — love the videos.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

Sorry. Thought I was clear on this. You shuffle the villain in with blessings.

  • EvanoGMan 56 mins ago

What happens if there is more than one open location when you fail to defeat a villain and he escapes? How do you decide where he goes?

  • Jasebbi 56 mins ago

Been waiting patiently for this review….now looking forward to playing it even more.

    Ok mate, thanks.

You have to make an account on paizo's site and then "buy" them. They don't cost you any money, but the link generated is randomized. I wish I could share them, but I'm not even sure if I would be allowed to 🙂

  • Gabriel Conlledo 56 mins ago

Can you share the link to get those player aid pages?

  • Jonathan Nelson 56 mins ago

I enjoy seeing the inside of the box to see what's there and how it's all laid out. Thanks for that. As a regular RPG player and now an avid board and card gamer, I'm really looking forward to giving this game a try. Great job with the review. Makes me want to play it even more.

I love this game! Enough said.

  • TheTwyker 56 mins ago

    Ah, okay, thanks :)!

There will be 5 more adventure packs released every two months. Also each adventure pack has 5 scenarios.

Fingers crossed that this delivers this week, been looking forward to this for quite awhile and your review did nothing to relax my acquisition needs, looks and sounds fantastic, can't wait. Thanks for the review Joel!

  • TragicTableTop 56 mins ago

this is already pre-ordered… looking forward to it

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

    Sweet. I hope so.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

Thanks Nat. I'm curious how those who do RPGs more consistently will receive the game.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

It's only if that location has been temporarily closed. Of course, you need a character there to attempt to close it, but if they can't close it, it's fair game for the villain to escape to.

  • TheTwyker 56 mins ago

Hey Joel! From what I understand after watching the Watch It Played video, I think the villain can't escape to a location where a hero stands – looks as if he's guarding the place or something :P.

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

Absolutely. Sorry, I thought I was clear about the need to team-up in my final thoughts at the end. You definitely need to consider the draw backs of spreading out to "scout" vs. grouping up to easier take out monsters and villains etc…

  • Drive Thru Games 56 mins ago

It has rules for that. It's just my preference. Basically, you can get a gimped character or grind up another one solo. Meh. I'd rather just replay the scenario. Honestly, they are fun enough I won't have issue playing them more than once.

  • Steve Gale 56 mins ago

Second question: I noticed you had the heroes split up most of the time. That would be another major difference from a traditional RPG. Are there rules for teaming up beyond just trading gear? More to the point, do you ever feel like you *need* to team up to take down certain baddies?

  • Steve Gale 56 mins ago

Fantastic review. I've been waiting to see details about this game. Couple questions. First, you mentioned that if a character dies you should just start over. You wouldn't do that in an RPG, but rather would usually either resurrect the character or create a new one (usually less well-equipped). Is character death not covered in the rules?
